Man arrested following Merrimack crash that closed road and gas station, damaged library’s electrical systems

MERRIMACK – A man was arrested following a crash Tuesday night that shut down Baboosic Lake Road, forced a nearby gas station to close and damaged the electrical system of the public library, police said. William McGregor, 26, 175 Indian Rock Road, was charged with operating under the influence of liquor, second offense, and conduct after an accident, police said. Shortly before 9 p.m. police and fire responded to Baboosic Lake Road and Daniel Webster Highway for a vehicle that had crashed into a utility police. Emergency crews arrived to find a broken pole and downed power and phone lines in the roadway, police said. Witnesses gave police the license plate number and description of a silver Chevy Silverado pickup truck they saw leave the scene heading west on Baboosic Lake Road, police said. Officers found the truck and its operator on Indian Rock Road, police said. The driver, identified as McGregor, showed signs of impairment, and after an investigation he was arrested. McGregor is scheduled to appear in Nashua district court on Jan. 8, 2013, police said. Baboosic Lake Road at the intersection of Daniel Webster Highway remained closed for several hours while Public Service of New Hampshire crew rebuilt the damaged lines. The Merrimack Public Library’s power supply was damaged, and as a result the library had a power surge into its main electrical panel affecting their computers, lighting fixtures and heating system.
