NASHUA – Police arrested a man on a slew of charges, saying he fired a gun at a French Hill residence, fled the scene and then flipped his pickup truck off Exit 2 of the F.E. Everett Turnpike on Thursday night, police said.
No one was injured in either the shooting or crash, police said.
Just after midnight Thursday, Jeffrey Rousseau, 24, of 101 Chandler St., was charged with domestic violence – reckless conduct, three more counts of reckless conduct, aggravated driving while intoxicated and conduct after an accident.
About an hour earlier, the Nashua Police Department had responded to a French Hill address for reports of multiple gun shots fired inside and outside a residence, police said.
Police declined to give the address where the shooting occurred to protect the identity of the domestic violence victim, but did confirm it occurred in French Hill.
A French Hill resident said Friday morning he heard the shots in his neighborhood. Chandler Street is in the French Hill area.
Rousseau fled the scene in a vehicle and an alert was broadcast to local law enforcement agencies.
At 11:23 p.m., Nashua police and the New Hampshire State Police responded to the area of Exit 2 of the turnpike for a report of an accident.
A black Ford F150 pickup truck had rolled off the ramp leading from Exit 2 to Daniel Webster Highway, Deputy Fire Chief Michael O’Brien said Friday morning.
Police discovered Rousseau had crashed his vehicle, causing damage to the guardrail, and fled the scene.
A search located Rousseau, who was taken into custody without incident, police said.
Detectives from the Nashua Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division furthered the investigation.
A witness said he heard about eight shots fired shortly before 11 p.m.
“It sounded like rapid fire, like ‘pop pop pop!’ ” Rony Camille said.
Police were seen in the area of Chandler Street earlier Friday morning.
Domestic violence – reckless conduct and the three additional counts of reckless conduct are Class B felonies. Aggravated driving while intoxicated is a Class A misdemeanor.
State police also charged Rousseau with conduct after an accident, a Class A misdemeanor.
A Class B felony is punishable by up to seven years in prison, plus fines.
