NASHUA - More than 50 people came together Thursday evening to discuss a prescription drug abuse forum at Nashua High School South sponsored by The Telegraph.
Alex Hamel, Keystone residential services dir, told the group there is a big upsurge in opiate addiction including prescriptions medications.
More than half of the people on Keystone's waiting list are using Rx pills or heroin, she said.
Scott O'Neil, recovering addict who became addicted as a student athlete said many athletes are prescribed painkillers after sprains or other injuries.
I definitely have to say it's an epidemic," he said.
Nashua Police Department Narcotics Lt. David Bailey said taking over narcotics after few years away was eye-opening. Much more prescription drug cases than before.
Board of Pharmacy President Vahrij Manoukian, who lost a son to a drug overdose said "We have a big epidemic. It's a big problem."
