NASHUA – The man found dead in a Dane Street home early Thursday morning after a long police standoff was the suspect in an armed robbery at HRA Market on Tuesday and apparently shot himself, according to police.
Police say the dead man is Michael Conway, 56, of 2 Dane St.
The standoff began when police went to arrest Conway at his home Wednesday evening after confirming that he matched descriptions of the robbery suspect and that his vehicles matched those seen in the store surveillance video.
“Detectives attempted to make contact with Conway; however, he retreated into his home,” said a release from Police Lt. Michael Moushegian.
At that point, a long standoff began, which led to a number of families being evacuated from their homes by 6 p.m. Wednesday as police and SWAT members manned surrounding positions.
It didn’t end until after 1 a.m. Police confirmed at 2 a.m.
