FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The situation is simple for the New England Patriots on Sunday.
And it’s also complex.
The Patriots will know when they run out into the chill of Gillette Stadium at 4:25 p.m. on Sunday what their chances of vaulting into a first-round bye are.
That’s pretty simple. New England has to win and either Denver or Houston has to lose.
If Houston beats Indianapolis in a game set for 1 p.m., then the Patriots have to beat the Miami Dolphins and Denver has to lose to Kansas City at home, the latter probably an unlikely scenario.
If Indianapolis wins, the Patriots can vault into the second seed with a win.
