NASHUA – If your sidewalks aren’t plowed already, don’t hold your breath.
With 214 miles of sidewalk in the city, it’s too time-consuming and expensive to get to them all, said Mayor Donnalee Lozeau.
“There’s not enough bodies, not enough equipment, I don’t think it’s cost effective to do that,” Lozeau said.
Instead, she’s hoping city residents will step up, and grab a shovel, to help clear the sidewalks in their neighborhoods.
“I grew up in this city; we had a sidewalk in front of our house,” Lozeau said.
“We cleared our walkway, cleared our stairs, and we cleared the sidewalk. I think there’s still a lot of people that do that.”
In the wake of two snowstorms last week, which combined dropped just over a foot of snow on the city, some residents have voiced concern that their sidewalks have not been plowed.
“It’s terrible over on Tyler Street, and really bad near the Post Office,” said Jesse Covill, who lives on Tyler Street and does plenty of walking downtown. “You end up having to walk in the street.
