HUDSON – Town residents will be able to weigh in on proposed budgets presented by the town and School District at the annual budget hearing slated for Thursday night.
The town’s operating budget for fiscal 2014 is $28.8 million, which doesn’t include any of the other 11 warrant articles voters can choose to support or reject. The proposed budget would mean an estimated $6.28 per $1,000 of assessed value for the tax rate. The proposed budget is nearly $390,000 more than the current budget.
If all of the warrant articles are approved by voters, the town budget would jump to $31.06 million, which is a 3.2 percent increase over the current budget, and would mean a tax rate of $6.47 per $1,000 of assessed value.
A number of contracts have been negotiated between the town and local bargaining units. All five have been recommended by the Board of Selectmen and Budget Committee.
The contract warrant article with the largest increase to the tax rate – if approved by voters – is the contract with the Hudson Police Employees Association.
