LACONIA (AP) - A 10-year-old girl who lost her prosthetic eye while swimming will soon have a new one thanks to an outpouring of community support.
Jennifer Miller was 3 when she lost her eye to a tumor. She was swimming about two weeks ago when she lost her prosthetic eye. Family members say her father is an Army veteran who has been disabled by a stroke and that the family, including his five children, gets by on his military pension and Social Security.
WMUR-TV reports (http://bit.ly/NVdUeD ) that $1,300 has been raised from a spaghetti dinner on Saturday and an online campaign has brought in another $5,645.
After hearing about Jennifer, Studley Ocular Laboratories in Bedford has offered to donate a new eye. Jennifer's first appointment with the lab is on Tuesday.
