MERRIMACK – The Merrimack School Board will revisit the proposed elimination of a French teacher at the high school after a handful of people requested the position be reinstated to the 2013-14 budget.
Former School Board President Jody Vaillancourt was the first to speak at the public comment section at Monday night’s hearing. She asked that the position be removed from the chopping block, saying that the district administration’s contention that declining interest in the subject is what led them to make that cut isn’t correct.
“I’ve done a little research, I got some information on enrollment numbers, and with all due respect to administration, I really don’t believe that’s an accurate assessment of the situation,” Vaillancourt said. “Especially with French 4 and 5, I believe those enrollment numbers are pretty standard and have remained consistent over the years with what those levels have been.”
Vaillancourt’s son, Schuyler Vaillancourt, is a sophomore at Merrimack High School, who is currently enrolled in French 3.
