HUDSON – The battle between two of the state’s better big men, Alvirne’s Tyler Livingston and Bishop Guertin’s Jeff Lunn, was pretty much a draw Tuesday. But for one night, at least, the Cardinals had the better supporting cast, improving to 6-1 with a 68-57 decision over the now 3-3 Broncos. Livingston kept Alvirne in the game in the first half, scoring 17 of his 30 points and all but eight of his team’s first-half points. Lunn, who had 10 of his 28 points in the third quarter when BG expanded a three-point halftime lead to 10, added 15 rebounds for his sixth double-double in seven games. Bishop Guertin led most of the way, and took its biggest lead of the night, 50-37, with 6:15 left in the game. But Alvirne used a 9-0 run in a little over a minute to cut the deficit to four. “We’re turned the ball over a couple of times and let them right back in the game,’’ Bishop Guertin coach Jim Migneault said. “We’re young and we do some stupid things at time, but they never get down on themselves and never stop working.’’ But as quickly as its big lead disappeared, the Cardinals got it back. Two huge 3-pointers by sophomore forward Kyle Gavin helped BG get the lead back to double digits. Gavin finished with 13 points, while junior forward Andrew Williams had 11 and senior guard Steven Toscano had 10, giving the Cardinals four players in double figures. That kind of balance wasn’t evident on the Alvirne side.
