Let’s play a game called “What’s he thinking?”
In other words, let’s try to read the mind of New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.
It’s virtually impossible to do, but when you watch the practices and preseason games, countless media members and fans give it their best shot.
Who does he keep? Who does he cut? Did any of the events of Monday’s preseason game with the Philadelphia Eagles make an impact on any of his decisions? Several regulars sat this one out, including quarterback Tom Brady, favorite targets Wes Welker and Rob Gronkowski, and Jerod Mayo on defense, among others. Of the offensive linemen playing early, only Nate Solder and Dan Connolly were recognizable. So clearly he wants a look-see at others. Maybe it was a smart move since Pats linebacker Jermaine Cunningham knocked Eagles QB Michael Vick from the field in the first quarter.
Last Thursday, Belichick was evasive on Jeff Demps and noted that Patriots haven’t been that great on kickoff returns.
