MILFORD – The former vice president of the Milford Middle School PTO pleaded no contest Monday to a single count of misdemeanor theft involving PTO funds and was handed a $1,000 fine and ordered to pay restitution. The fine was suspended for a year by Judge Martha Crocker as long as Ann Marie Ulbin, 47, of 117 Purgatory Road, remained on good behavior. Prosecutor Michael McCall told the judge that Ulbin already made significant steps toward restitution and has $396.76 still to pay. In court, she quietly assured the judge that she would do so. Nine other misdemeanor counts lodged against Ulbin were continued for a year; they are to be dismissed, contingent upon good behavior. Asked for comment after the brief hearing, Ulbin deferred to a man standing with her, who didn’t identify himself. He said, “We’re happy it’s been resolved.” Ulbin was arraigned in May and pleaded not guilty then. Her initial trial date was set for May but was continued until June, then continued again and finally held Monday. According to then-Milford Police Chief Fred Douglas, all of the charges were misdemeanors because each allegation involved less than $500, the amount needed to rise to the level of a felony. The total alleged to have been taken came to $2,150, but theft allegations are not cumulative, Douglas said. Individual withdrawals from several TDBank branches – most in Milford but some in Manchester, Bedford and Nashua – were for various amounts, including $250, $150, and $200, Douglas said.
