One day, Julia Pelletier’s younger brother couldn’t figure out how to say her first name, so he called her “GG.”
The nickname stuck, just like the vast majority of the pucks that are fired at her during the course of a Bishop Guertin High School girls hockey game.
Pelletier, a freshman from Pelham, is one of the main reasons her team has won seven of its first 10 games. You get the feeling that if the Cardinals are able to make a dent into Hanover’s domination of the sport, Pelletier will play a huge part. She hasn’t allowed more than three goals a game all season.
It’s been a load off the mind of Cards head coach Myia Yates, who had wondered before the start of the season what she was going to do for a goaltender. Bishop Guertin’s mainstay of the previous two years, Sabrina Dobbins, chose to play club hockey this season instead.
“I had heard some of the players who knew her say ‘We might be getting this awesome goalie,’ ” Yates said.![]()
