NASHUA – When Allison Thompson heads to Washington, D.C., for the first time this March, she’ll be getting more than just a typical tour.
In addition to sightseeing at the Capitol building, various memorials and museums, Thompson, a senior at Nashua High School South, will top off the trip with a visit with President Barack Obama.
“I’m really excited,” she said Thursday, smiling widely.
Thompson was one of two students selected to represent the Granite State as delegates to the 51st annual U.S. Senate Youth Program, held from March 9-16.
As delegates, Thompson, along with fellow delegate John Parsons, a senior at Oyster River High School, will receive $5,000 college scholarships.
Thompson was nominated by South principal Keith Richard to serve as a delegate and then was selected by the state Department of Education after an application, essay and interview process.
For Thompson, the opportunity is a dream come true.
“My dream is to be a senator,” she said. “I think this is going to be a great opportunity to learn more about how the country actually works.
