NASHUA – The Greater Nashua Mental Health Center has agreed to pay more than $50,000 to the state to settle allegations that it had received Medicaid payments it wasn’t entitled to, according to the attorney general’s office. The state and the mental health center settled the False Claims Act complaint, Attorney General Michael A. Delaney announced Wednesday. Under terms of the agreement, the center agreed to pay $54,281.76 to the state, Delaney announced. The investigation arose in 2012 after a review by the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit of improper billing practices by the center, according to Delaney. These improper billing practices concerned Psychosocial Rehabilitation services that were coded improperly; as a result, the center received Medicaid payments it wasn’t entitled to receive, according to Delaney. The billings at issue spanned 2008 through 2012, according to Delaney. A phone call to the Medicaid Fraud division of the attorney general’s Office wasn’t immediately returned. Dr. Hisham Hafez, executive director and chief medical officer of the Greater Nashua Mental Health Center, couldn’t be immediately reached Wednesday afternoon. – PATRICK MEIGHAN
