HUDSON – Facing the challenge of playing the toughest competition in a revamped Division I, Alvirne High School athletic director Karen Bonney knew she needed to find a head coach who would breathe new life into the Broncos’ football program.

“Mark is such a dynamic person, once he gets his foot in the door, he’ll hook those kids,” Bonney said Tuesday in announcing Phillips’ hiring as the Broncos new head coach. He replaces Bobby Nimblett, who resigned in November.
“It’s going to be a great opportunity,” said Phillips, who was an assistant under Tony Johnson at Guertin from 1994 to 2010. “They have great athletes (at Alvirne).
