Winter storm “Nemo” goes easy on Nashua area

By dawn Saturday, the Gate City looked more like a scene from an apocalyptic movie than a city of nearly 90,000 people. City plows trawled through the streets, drivers on snowmobiles darted in and out among the slow-moving plows and the sidewalks were still covered with 2 feet of snow. The storm, dubbed Nemo, was wrapping up, and it had hit Nashua hard, dumping 22 inches of snow on the city in the course of 29 hours and causing schools to be shut down in anticipation of what was deemed a storm of “historic proportions.” Despite the snowfall totals, power outages were minimal and only one major motor vehicle accident was reported after a man lost control of his vehicle on Route 28 in Auburn and was killed when the vehicle struck a tree just after noon Friday, according to Auburn police. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. PSNH reported that in preparation for Nemo, it would have 1,100 employees, contractors and support staff to handle outages in the Granite State, but the lights stayed on.
