NASHUA – From plans to bring rail to Nashua and ongoing work with the Broad Street Parkway, Mayor Donnalee Lozeau will have plenty to talk about in the annual State of the City Address on Tuesday night. The address will kick off the mayor’s sixth year in office, giving her the opportunity to discuss the state of city finances, upcoming budgetary challenges and the outlook on union contracts under negotiation.
Lozeau said Monday that financially, the city continues to see the effects of an economic downturn.
She has already identified increasing employer rates for the New Hampshire Retirement System – up by 26 percent – as the biggest challenge facing the city in its budget process this year. Lozeau asked city department heads this month to keep any budget increases to 1 percent or less, to help offset the approximately $3.7 million increase in retirement costs for the city next year.
