LOWELL, Mass. – Shelly McGrade once wrote her dad that she wanted a husband just like him.
In that letter, she said she wanted “a family man who always brought his paycheck home,” took the family on two vacations a year, and generally took care of those he loved, Dennis McGrade said.
Shelly would call him every day from work.
“Shouldn’t you be busy?” he would ask her.
“I’m the boss,” she’d say. “And anyway, I’m ahead with my work.”
In those phone calls, Shelly would always share a joke.
“Some of them were the stupidest thing you heard in your life. But I’d still laugh at them and tell her they were great,” Dennis McGrade, 65, said.
