Having coached Merrimack High School to two boys basketball titles, in 2004 and again last year, Tim Goodridge should know something about what it takes to win a championship. One dominant, potential Player of the Year is a good place to start, but Goodridge says it takes two reliable scorers to compliment the team leader, and some reliable role players. It sees to perfectly describe Nashua South. Junior guard Tim Preston, who had 28 points last Friday at Manchester West and 27 more in Tuesday’s victory over previously unbeaten Central, has emerged as a strong Player of the Year candidate. And he has a pair of seniors, 6-6 center Jack Preston and 6-4 senior forward David Dunham consistently scoring in double figures. Jack Preston can be force in the post. Dunham can get you rebounds and drill 3-pointers, like he did against Central on Tuesday night. The Panthers also have the ultimate role player in starter Trevor Knight, a player who does all the little things, especially at the defensive end. “Trevor is a gamer,’’ Nashua North coach Nate Mazerolle said.
