UPDATE: The problems appear to have all been fixed by Friday morning. FairPoint’s broadband service had problems Thursday in portions of New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont for the second time in a week, according to an automated message from the company. An 11 a.m. message Thursday said DSL customers “may be unable to connect to the Internet at this time” and that the company is “working towards a resolution.” By 2 p.m., the message suggested that people “power cycle” their equipment, meaning turn it off and then on again, to reset Internet connections. DSL uses copper telephone to provide high-speed Internet. However, the Telegraph’s FairPoint connection, which runs over fiber-optic cables, was also affected. FairPoint’s high-speed Internet service suffered glitches a week ago that covered large parts of New Hampshire and Maine, with overlap into Vermont. The cause for last week’s service problems was a failed card in a router that handles Internet traffic for parts of Maine and New Hampshire, worsened by difficulties some people had re-authenticating their accounts, according to FairPoint. The company’s support line is 1-800-240-5019.
