Nashua Storm at Maryland Winterfest
Members of the Greater Nashua YMCA Storm recently traveled by invitation to the SPY Winterfest Swimming Regional at the Eppley Recreation Center at the University of Maryland in College Park. The Winterfest is one of the largest meet in the US, more than
1,700 swimmers participated from 46 different teams, hailing from Maine to Florida and as far away as Illinois.
Three Storm swimmers broke team individual records, while Anastasiya Ausiannikava set a team record in female 13-14 200 butterfly; Kerry McCann also set a record for females 15 & over 100 backstroke. Bryan Laborera broke his own team record in male 13-14 200 breaststroke.
“Sixteen swimmers from Nashua, Manchester, Bedford, Hollis, Amherst, Merrimack and surrounding areas achieved personal bests.” head coach Christopher Pfaffenroth said “These swimmers not only represented their team and their YMCA but also their communities extremely well and we couldn’t be more proud of them.”
Three relay teams broke long standing Storm team records in female 11-12 200 free relay (Mattea Dumdey, Emily Sweet, Lauren Brennan, and Nicole Gagnon); female 13-14 200 free relay (Anastasiya Ausiannikava, Mary Rego, Katie Szum, and Heather Luby); and male open 400 MR (Bryan Laborera, Nico Laborera, Josh Rines, and Tyler Howard).
Other Storm swimmers who achieved personal bests at this Eastern Regional meet include Om Kapoor and Olivia Petropulos.
The Storm’s next meet is the NH YMCA state meet at the Allard Center YMCA Samuel P.
