MERRIMACK – Both drivers were transported to hospitals Friday afternoon after a two-car crash near the Merrimack Premium Outlets.
Police responded to the accident about 12:09 p.m. on Industrial Drive.
A 2009 Chevrolet Express van driven by Mark Duffley, of 21 Chatham St., Nashua, was traveling east on Industrial Drive near the outlets when it stopped at a traffic light just past the Exit 10 on-ramp for the F.E. Everett Turnpike.
The van was then rear-ended by a 1999 Volkswagen Beetle operated by Sarah Bancroft, of 19 Swift Lane, Merrimack, police said.
Bancroft also was traveling east on Industrial Drive, police said.
The Volkswagen began to catch fire and was extinguished by a passing motorist. Police closed the road while the Fire Department extricated Bancroft from the vehicle, and one lane eastbound remained closed until the Beetle was towed.
Bancroft was transported to Southern New Hampshire Regional Medical Center with serious injuries but not ones that were life threatening, police said.
