NASHUA – They are playing the best basketball in the state, and if they can do if for another week they win a second consecutive championship. The top-seeded Bishop Guertin girls got off to a slow start in Saturday night’s Division I quarterfinal against Salem, trailing the visitors 16-13 after one. But the explosion was coming, followed by a second detonation in the fourth quarter. The Cardinals outscored the Blue Devils 29-8 in the second quarter to take control of the game. They added to the lead slightly in the third quarter. Then the fourth quarter, it was pure show time. When coach Scott Hazelton summoned his starters to the bench with just over three minutes left, the Cardinals led 73-34. But his bench players, determined to keep things rolling, scored 13 more for a 33-point quarter and an 86-39 victory. The Cardinals, who play Londonderry in the semifinals on Wednesday night at Southern New Hampshire University, have scored in the mid 80s in both tournament games so far.
