MANCHESTER – Tripping is supposed to be illegal in the game of ice hockey, but somehow, some way, the Memorial High School Crusaders found a way to make the Bishop Guertin Cardinals finally stumble on Saturday.
And it couldn’t have come at a worse time, the Division I quarterfinals. The Cards had skated so well at the end of the regular season, in the tourney’s first round, and throughout the first period on Saturday, even grabbing a 2-0 lead.
But all it took was a Crusader flurry in the second period – three goals in a span of 1:05 – and the top seed sent the No. 8 Cards crashing to the ice in the form of a 4-2 ouster at JFK Coliseum.
“We played 15 minutes as well as anybody,” Guertin coach Gary Bishop said. “Then they started moving their feet, and we didn’t meet the challenge.
