Bishop Guertin, Bedford girls basketball teams know each other well

When Meghan Green and Maggie McGown were growing up together in Bedford and forming a close friendship, they probably didn’t imagine what would take place Saturday at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester. Green, who followed two siblings to Bishop Guertin High School, developed into one of the state’s top basketball player, leading the Cardinals to a championship as a junior and earning a Division I scholarship. McGown played with a promising younger group of players in Bedford, who competed for three years in Division II on a team that never got past the first round of the tournament. But at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, No. 2 Bedford (19-2), in just its first season in Division I, will take on the top-ranked defending champions (20-1) – who have two other senior starters, Madison Gibbs and Nicole Hayner, who grew up in Bedford. “It’s kind of weird, because earlier in high school, I didn’t think I’d ever be playing them,” Green said. “Maggie is my best friend and I know all the juniors.
