Souhegan High School is due for a $2 million fix to its leaky roof now that voters in Amherst and Mont Vernon overwhelmingly passed the upgrade.
The $1.95 million bond to replace the roof and HVAC systems at Souhegan High School passed 1,622 to 742, with nearly 70 percent of voters in favor. The Souhegan roof is original to the 1992 building, and it has outlasted its estimated useful life.
It leaks in many places throughout the school, including over the gymnasium, where tarps are hung from the ceiling to prevent damage to the gymnasium floor. The HVAC systems also are outdated and require costly routine maintenance.
