Chargers’ Reyes big hit back home in Nashua

NASHUA – After a pretty solid rookie season in the National Football League, former Nashua High School North grid standout Kendall Reyes has an easier time than ever laughing off one prominent high school coach’s assertion five years ago that Reyes was “the most overrated player in the state.” Reyes, now 23 and a fit, formidable 6-foot-4-inch, 300-pound athlete who starred at the University of Connecticut before the San Diego Chargers scooped him up in the second round of the 2012 NFL draft, was back home Wednesday night mingling with old friends and new acquaintances at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua’s second combined Youth of the Year Dinner and Hall of Fame Ceremony at the club’s gym. “I had the time of my life here,” Reyes said, glancing around the room he’d entered just 10 minutes before, thanks to delays in his connecting flight from San Diego. “I love Nashua,” he said to cheers and applause. “I look around, people in this room been doing this for 40, 50 years. Wow … when I was a little kid here, I had no idea all that had been going on for so long.” Reyes, who towered over the dais, recalled how valuable the club was for him and his family. “This place was really big for my family.
