A preliminary report on the Oct. 25 fatal crash of a single-engine airplane that took off from Boire Field in Nashua has found no mechanical reason for the accident.
The report from the National Transportation Safety Board said the plane’s engine and controls appeared to be functioning.
The report said the Beechraft A36, piloted by Herman Hassinger, made a 180-degree turn from its planned flight path at about 12:49 p.m., 10 minutes after taking off from Nashua and 17 minutes before it hit a light stanchion and crashed on Interstate 93 in Hooksett.
Hassinger and his wife, Doris, were killed in the crash. Nobody on the ground was injured, although the highway was closed for hours.
The report said that when the plane turned around, contact via the automatic transponder was lost.
