Congresswoman-elect Annie Kuster has turned to an accomplished political operative to serve as her district director, The Sunday Telegraph has learned.
Sean Downey most recently completed a stint as political director of Organizing for America, the grassroots operation of President Barack Obama.
His work on state and federal campaigns goes back a decade, and he was a senior adviser on Gov. John Lynch’s re-election campaign in 2010. Downey is a 2002 graduate of Holy Cross.
“I am thrilled that Sean will be joining our team as district director,” Kuster said in a statement.
“Sean has a wealth of experience that makes him a natural fit for this role. The people of New Hampshire’s 2nd District will be well-served by his thoughtfulness, diligence and commitment to public service.”
As only she can do, congresswoman-elect Carol Shea Porter went a very different route, choosing a veteran elected official from the state, former senator and 2012 candidate for governor Jackie Cilley, of Barrington, to run her staff shop.
GOP post draws outrage
The GOP natives are restless about the imminent coronation of two-time congressional candidate and radio talk show host Jennifer Horn, of Nashua, as chairwoman of the Republican State Committee.
A day after The Telegraph foreshadowed it, Horn all but appeared to have locked up the job by releasing a list of Who’s Who of the GOP power elite including Sen.
