Rajon Rondo saw a media crowd waiting for him as he walked from the practice court Monday.
“You need me?” he said, setting off an affirmative chorus.
“I’m not talking today,” Rondo said as he disappeared into the trainer’s area that leads to the dressing room.
Some might see this as progress. Coming off a two-game suspension for attacking Kris Humphries last Wednesday, Rondo saw trouble in those pens and microphones, and he chose to avoid trouble.
OK, not really. The Celtics point guard cost himself money for indulging his emotions against the Nets, and he opened himself up to a fine for not meeting his NBA-mandated media obligations (though sources say this likely will be a first and last warning).
But, of course, talking to you through us isn’t the issue. It’s whether Rajon Rondo can harness and channel his fire for positive ends.
