BAE Systems said Wednesday that it has received $81 million from Lockheed Martin Corp. to begin production in Nashua of 143 infrared seekers for an anti-missile system known as Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, or THAAD. The system is designed to defend from ballistic missile attacks, the company said in a press release. It “detects infrared radiation from the target missile and warhead and generates video guiding the interceptor to the target.” Lockheed Martin also awarded $5.3 million in initial contract funding for tooling and test equipment to increase the monthly production rate, according to BAE Systems. Lockheed Martin is the prime contractor for THAAD. – Telegraph Staff
