AUBURN (AP) - Officials say a dog has been killed in a hunter's trap that was illegally set in Auburn, N.H.
Dog owner Melissa Fogelson said she took her dog for a walk at the Auburn watershed area when it put its head in a trap and suffocated on Wednesday.
Fish and Game Department officials say the device was a body-gripping trap, which may have been set for fishers. But officials say it was set illegally. Fish and Game Officer Chris McKee tells WMUR-TV (ttp://bit.ly/VmTg9O) that a trap that size needs to be set 5 feet off the ground or underwater.
Officials tracked the trap to a hunter who did not have a permit to trap in the watershed property.
The hunter is expected to face charges.
