NASHUA– Plans for education reform in the city were not enough to win a $26.9 million federal Race to the Top grant that the school district applied for this fall.
The district was named one of 61 finalists nationwide last month, out of nearly 400 applicants. But when the list of grant winners was released by the U.S. Department of Education on Tuesday, it did not include the Nashua.
“While we are all disappointed that our proposal wasn’t successful, our staff did great work and put together a very comprehensive proposal,” said Board of Education President Robert Hallowell.
A total of 16 grants were awarded to districts and groups of districts in 11 states and Washington, D.C.
