Sox swat Jays

BOSTON – For once, the moons and stars aligned sufficiently to give Jon Lester sufficient run support on a day that he makes a quality start. The Red Sox hammered Blue Jays starter Ricky Romero for six runs in the first inning, while Lester did what any good pitcher does when given such an early cushion - he threw strikes and put his fielders to work. The result was a 10-4 Red Sox win, sending them off to Seattle on Thursday having completed a 7-2 homestand. “It definitely takes the pressure off,’’ Lester said. “It’s big to have our offense go out and do that for you. You can’t ask for more from those guys.’’ Lester also served up two home run balls, Jose Bautista’s 25th of the season, a missile over everything in left, and Edwin Encarnacion’s 22nd, a line drive into the bleacher ramp behind the Red Sox bullpen. As Lester said when asked about the Bautista homer, which came on a full count, “We’re up 7-1.
