NASHUA – Sometimes in hockey all it takes is one lucky bounce to lift a team’s spirits.
And a holiday tournament title to help make their season.
No matter what happens to the Nashua High School South boys ice hockey team the rest of the way, the Panthers can at least call themselves champions, as in eighth annual Conway Holiday Hockey Classic champions.
Alex Radin’s simple, long clear from the neutral zone took a hard bounce past Nashua North goaltender Jake Genest at 4:04 of the opening period, giving the Panthers title and a 1-0 win over their rivals on Monday at Conway Arena.
South’s Dan LeBlanc was credited with the assist. Did Radin think it was going to even have a chance to go in?
“Actually I didn’t, it was just a dump in,” he said. “When I looked up, everybody was cheering, that’s what I noticed.
