NASHUA – After acquiring the Volkswagen franchise from legendary city auto dealers the Tulley family, Manchester-based AutoFair Automotive Group will open 2013 with its new VW dealership on Route 101A in South Merrimack. Officials of both dealerships on Monday confirmed the agreement, which makes AutoFair the model’s third local franchisee in more than 50 years. The new store, which moved in to a vacant portion of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle complex at 717 Route 101A, is expected to open Wednesday. Second-generation Tulley owner Jack Tulley said Monday that the family decided nearly a year ago to look for a buyer for its VW line. “There are a lot of components to this,” Tulley said, adding their chief motive was the dealership’s declining relationship with the VW manufacturer. “As VW continues in its quest to be number one in the nation, (automakers) have been placing unreasonable demands on dealers,” he said. “So, over a period of time, we looked for a reputable dealer, like us, to take over the franchise.
