NASHUA – The Board of Aldermen will take up two bills Tuesday related to the special election to fill a District 31 seat vacated by former state Rep.-elect Stacie Laughton.
Ward 4 Alderman Art Craffey sponsored the resolutions to authorize the transfer of $1,990 from general contingency to the city clerk’s general fund operating budget to cover the election’s expenses and to set the polling hours for the election, slated for Feb. 19.
There are now just two candidates in the race to fill the District 31 seat, which represents Ward 4 of Nashua.
Republican Elizabeth Van Twuyver, of 9 Pine Hill Ave., ran and lost in the Nov. 6 election for the House seat, finishing behind Democrats David Cote, Mary Gorman, and Stacie Laughton.
Democrat Pam Brown, of 2 Clocktower Place, Apt. 209, is the new face in the race.
The special election comes after Laughton, the first openly transgendered candidate to be elected to a state legislature in the United States, gave up her seat in light of news that she committed several felonies in Laconia under the name Barry Charles Laughton, Jr.
