When the Souhegan High School football team opens its regular season against Winnacunnet of Hampton next Friday, it will likely be shorthanded.
Mike Beliveau, the long-time Souhegan coach, is facing discipline for violating a New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association rule, and the likely consequence is a two-game suspension.
Souhegan’s first game is Friday, Aug. 31.
Beliveau violated a point of emphasis under the NHIAA’s football policies and procedures that states scouting or filming an opponent cannot be done until a team’s final preseason scrimmage or jamboree.
“I didn’t know the rule and I should have known the rule,” Beliveau said Tuesday. “I was in violation of a rule.
