NASHUA – Stealing a bottle of wine from a supermarket is typically a misdemeanor offense, unless police discover the suspect has prior theft convictions.
That is the case for Warren Picard, 50, of no fixed address, police said.
Picard is charged with entering Shaw’s Supermarket at 300 Main St. on Thursday morning and stealing a bottle of wine, police said. When police officers located Picard, they discovered he has an outstanding bench warrant for nonpayment of fines, police said.
A records check showed Picard has two prior theft convictions, which upgraded the wine theft from a misdemeanor to a Class B felony, police said.
The Class B felony is punishable by up to seven years in state prison plus fines. Picard was held at the Nashua Police Department after refusing bail.
