NASHUA – Two men jailed in a Canadian prison are appealing an order to extradite them to New Hampshire to face trial for a 1988 Nashua double murder. A Canadian judge ruled against the men, Anthony Barnaby and David Caplin, and ordered them handed over to U.S. authorities but both appealed the decision ordering their extradition, according to Senior Assistant Attorney General Janice Rundles. Her office is expecting a decision on the appeal “within the next several months,” Rundles said. The state attorney general is receiving information from the U.S. attorney’s office, which is monitoring the case, Rundles said. Her office is providing information, but extradition is being argued by a Canadian prosecutor, Rundles said. Barnaby and Caplin will remain behind bars until the Canadian court rules on their extradition, Rundles said. New Hampshire authorities have tried for 25 years to prosecute the two men suspected of killing two neighbors. Police north of the border arrested Barnaby and Caplin in April 2011 after Nashua and state police, working with Canadian authorities, reopened the case in 2010 and eventually decided to try the men for the double murder. Barnaby, 44, and Caplin, 50, are charged with murdering Charlene Ranstrom, 48, and Brenda Warner, 32, in the women’s 7 Mason St.
