NASHUA – For kindergartners such as Kaylee Zaryckyj and Marques Martin, the word “blizzard” evokes images of wonders untold. “My house is going to be buried tomorrow, up to the roof,” said Marques, 5. “There is just going to be snow everywhere, everywhere.” Kaylee, also 5, discussed her version of storm preparation. “It’s where people go out and fill their trunks with blankets and get a lot of snacks that don’t go bad,” she said. Those were some of the more realistic answers students at World Academy in Nashua came up with Friday in trying to describe what a blizzard really is. For many, a true blizzard is something they’ve never seen and only heard stories about. “Is it like a lizard?” one student asked, while another pondered, saying finally, “I think it has hair?” World Academy was one of only a handful of schools around the state that were open Friday, and school leader Kathy Nelson said the school prides itself on always being accessible to students and their families. In her more than 30 years at the school, they have closed only for about 10 holidays a year. “We don’t have any walkers, we don’t rely on buses, we’re here for the whole family and the whole child,” Nelson said. “We stay open because we can.” The school did close early Friday, releasing students just after 1 p.m.
