MONT VERNON – A heated debate at the Mont Vernon School District Deliberative Session on Thursday concerned funding for a math coach and an IT staff position, but the $4.73 million budget and all warrant articles were eventually placed on the ballot as written.
Attorney David Sturm was also officially installed as moderator.
The proposed operating budget represents a decrease of $113,623, or 2.4 percent, from the 2013 default budget. If approved, it would reduce the tax rate by 9 cents per $1,000 of assessed value.
Because of declining enrollment at the district’s only school – Mont Vernon Village School, for kindergarten through sixth grade – one full-time teaching position is being eliminated, although it hasn’t yet been decided which position will go.
