BG’s Jim Migneault makes correct call benching C.J. Boykin for remainder of season

Jim Migneault wouldn’t have been the first high school coach to put winning first. The head coach of the Bishop Guertin High School boys basketball team might have let C.J. Boykin play in Tuesday’s Division I semifinal but that’s not the way it turned out. With the school administration keeping quiet on what Boykin’s status was going to be – the junior, along with another student, was arrested Saturday for allegedly throwing an egg at a Hudson police cruiser – Migneault stepped up and made the decision on his own. When news of the arrest broke Monday morning, Bishop Guertin opted not to comment on Boykin’s status, citing privacy issues. Not sure what those issues were, but my gut told me the silence meant the administration was going to let him play. Why keep quiet if he wasn’t going to be in the lineup? Then Migneault made the decision on his own, saying Monday night that no matter what the school did, he wasn’t going to let Boykin play. And Migneault stuck to that. Boykin wasn’t on the bench at UNH for Tuesday’s game against Spaulding, and unless he was hiding near the back of the crowd, he wasn’t in the building. “I wasn’t going to play him because I thought he’s got to learn something,” Migneault said.
