BROOKLINE – Incumbent Selectman Jack Flanagan was voted out Tuesday night after more than a decade on the board, with two newcomers beating him soundly for three-year terms on the board.
Flanagan, a state representative who was first elected in Brookline in 1996, got 173 votes, far below the tallies for newcomers Susan Adams, who received 306 votes, and Brendan Denehy, who got 310.
The selectman’s race for two seats was the only contest on the ballot.
Adams, 50, has lived in town for six years and previously told The Telegraph she believes she embodies the values needed to serve as a strong selectman.
Denehy, 52, has lived in town for 11 years and said he ran to ensure the community would “thrive.”
Town Clerk Patricia Howard-Barnett said the voter turnout was low: 12.5 percent, with 437 out of 3,476 registered votes coming to the polls.
