NASHUA – School lunch prices may increase for the second straight year to meet federal mandates, which intend to bring school meal prices around the country in line with actual cost. The Nashua School District’s food service department is proposing a price increase of 10 cents at the elementary schools, from $2.25 to $2.35, and 25 cents at the high schools, from $2.50 to $2.75. Middle school students would continue to pay $2.50 for lunches. The Board of Education’s Finance and Operations Committee will hear the proposal Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the district administration building on Ledge Street. If approved, the proposal for higher meal prices would then go before the full Board of Education later this month. The price of breakfast also would increase under the proposal, said food service director Jeanette Kimbell. She said the district has not raised breakfast prices for at least five years, but next year’s proposal includes a 25-cent raise at each school.
