Hudson Chamber honors citizens, businesses of the year

WINDHAM – Hudson Selectman Roger Coutu said when resident Linda Kipnes comes before the board, he never knows if she’s going to talk about energy, recycling, the Rodgers Memorial Library or the butterfly garden at Benson Park. This is one of the many reasons that she was chosen by the Greater Hudson Chamber of Commerce as the Citizen of the Year for 2012. Kipnes, along with other winners, nominees and chamber members, were in attendance Wednesday night at the annual awards dinner held at the Castleton in Windham. Kipnes has been described as “the quiet woman behind the scenes,” “who’s in constant motion … to serve her community.” For more than 25 years she’s been serving the greater Hudson community whether she’s dishing up breakfast at the Nashua Soup Kitchen, working Election Day bake sales, staying overnight at the Anne Marie House or helping birth lambs at Heifer’s Overlook Farm. The list of Kipnes involvement in town seems endless, but includes General Federation of Women’s Clubs, Hudson Community Club and GFWC Hudson Juniors, participating in a monthly peace vigils, bringing a butterfly garden to Benson Park and participating in the CROP Hunger Walk. “This past election, one of the most important questions I was asked, ‘What makes Hudson great?’ … What makes our community so great are the people within the community.
