Harbor Homes entertains 300 at Thanksgiving dinner; soup kitchen gives out 900 turkeys

NASHUA – Thanksgiving is an occasion to share with family, Ken Doucette said Tuesday as he prepared to dive into a plate of turkey and trimmings. Family doesn’t have to mean blood relatives – it can be made of the fabric of a broader community, he said. “This is part of that social family I live in right now,” Doucette said in a packed dining room at the annual community Thanksgiving dinner sponsored by Harbor Homes at its High Street headquarters. The dinner was “intended for the less-fortunate members of our community who would like the opportunity to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday with friends and neighbors,” according to Harbor Homes officials. Talkative and friendly, Doucette is widely known – and well liked – among various downtown spots, such as Harbor Homes and the Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter. He’s notable as much for his sartorial style – a Batman hat with glued on bat ears, Batman T-shirt and shorts – as for his long, thick grey beard. “Yum! Food for the body, and food for the soul,” Doucette said of the feast. Still, Doucette said he misses his first family – his father and siblings live outside of Nashua.
