MERRIMACK – A car driven by a 92-year-old veered off the F.E. Everett Turnpike on Saturday afternoon and crashed into a tree, killing the young passenger. Matthew Caban, 24, of Waltham, Mass., was transported to Saint Joseph Hospital in Nashua, where he was pronounced dead. The single-car crash happened at about 12:39 p.m. off the northbound lanes just north of Exit 11, State Police said. According to State Police, a 2005 Buick LaSabre driven by John Caban, 92, also of Waltham, Mass., left the east side of the road, struck a tree and rolled over. John Caban was transported to Saint Joseph Hospital in Nashua with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said. State Police late Saturday afternoon said they weren’t sure how John and Matthew Caban were related. State Troopers were assisted on the scene by the Merrimack Police Department and Merrimack Fire and Rescue. The continued investigation is being conducted by Trooper Phil Akstin of the New Hampshire State Police Troop B.
